QUINTA da FIDALGA

Quinta da Fidalga, whose foundation dates back to the 15th century, is one of the oldest and best preserved examples of farm and recreation farms in the region. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the connection to the Gama Lobo family was documented, of which several members stood out in the royal service, especially as secretaries of the Treasury Council.

Still in the eighteenth century it stood out for its excellent orchards of citrus, streets covered with wild trees and grapevines in trellises. Two wells equipped with daisies provided water for irrigation and to feed three sources of clutches. It is also distinguished by the tidal lake, which is a rare or almost unique monument in Portuguese hydraulic architecture. It also has a chapel that was integrated in the palace in the middle of the XX century in substitution of an older one.

The interior walls are lined with 18th century tiles and reproductions also from this period. In 1952, the mansion and the streets of the farm registered several interventions directed by the architect Raul Lino, emphasizing the tiles, of several times arranged by several points of the gardens.
